Take caution while cleaning bins

grain 1If you have plans to clean out your grain bins in the coming weeks in preparation for harvest, remember that even if the bin is not full, your safety is still at risk!

grain 2Depending on how wet the grain was going in, there is always a chance for crusting near the top of the bin. Do not attempt to walk across a bridge of corn within the bin, it could collapse causing full engulfment. Also watch out for vertical wall crusts. Removing the grain from the wall can cause an avalanche-like affect leading to engulfment as well.

We have a busy season coming up folks, let’s not start off on the wrong foot!
