Think it can’t happen to you? She didn’t either

It’s easy to hear stories of farm accidents and think it won’t happen to you and your family. In many situations, injuries and accidents happen when we don’t expect them. Marilyn Adams, the founder of Farm Safety For Just Kids, wasn’t expecting it to happen to her family either when her son suffocated in a gravity flow grain wagon during harvest time in 1986.

We cannot predict when injuries will occur but we can do our best to prevent them through specific safety precautions and procedures. When families and farmers work together to promote safe behaviors and actions the risk of an accident can decrease.

Holly Martin didn’t expect to get the call that she did, but it happened. In this High Plains Journal piece Holly recounts what happened the day the safety of her family was in jeopardy.
