When people hear “farm safety” they think tractors, livestock, grain.
But, it’s more than that.
It’s about keeping America’s farmers and ranchers safe and HEALTHY. Living healthy lives, creating healthy habits, and passing them onto the next generation. Do you consider your health to be an important connection to safety?
Pretty sure that would be a resounding “no.”
That’s okay. I don’t sit at my desk thinking, “have I stretched today?” And I talk about safety and health all day!
Since it’s not something you think about, we’ll remind you once in awhile.
A couple quick ways to get you thinking about your health on the farm:
– Get off the ATV/UTV this week. Check livestock on foot instead.
– Is this the week you quit smoking/chewing?
– Take a break. Mental health is important and a day off goes a long way. Hire someone to take your place for the day.
– Stretch. Sitting in tractors all day is hard on the body. Change position often and stretch your legs in the cab.
Okay, so taking a day off may be a bit of a stretch given it’s spring planting season. But it’s nice to daydream once in awhile, right?
Do something to make your life healthier this week. And encourage someone else to as well!
